Gurbeen Bhasin
Founder & Executive Director
Aangen Community Centre
Gurbeen Bhasin (she/her) is a social enterprise founder, executive director, and internationally engaged public speaker focused on sustainability, community development, and the circular economy. She is the Founder and Executive Director of Aangen Community Centre in Toronto, a self-sustained, non-grant-based not-for-profit that has been operating since 2000.
For over two decades, Gurbeen has led Aangen as a living model of social enterprise in action—designing community-based programs that respond directly to evolving local and global needs. Her work spans social innovation, alternative education, environmental sustainability, global community partnerships, and grassroots economic development, with a core philosophy rooted in service, equity, and collective care.
Gurbeen is widely recognized for her ability to bridge public, private, and community sectors, supporting organizations and leaders in transitioning toward social enterprise and give-back economic models. As a coach and consultant, she works with both government and industry leaders on change management, sustainability strategy, leadership development, and community-centered business design.
In addition to her leadership at Aangen, Gurbeen has a background in media production, human rights research, and international development, bringing a multidisciplinary and systems-level perspective to her work. She holds a Master of Social Work in Social Policy from the University of Michigan, and is known for her engaging facilitation style, strategic thinking, and deeply values-driven leadership.
At the heart of Gurbeen’s work is a simple but powerful mission: to build economic systems that are regenerative, inclusive, and rooted in care—for people, communities, and the planet.
